Bremen

Verdict of the Bremen city council in a conflict between the merchants and the crew of a ship that sailed to Iceland about the amount of the primage (payment for taking care of the cargo) to be paid, in which it is decided that the merchants shall not pay more than 1 Bremer grote.

The Scheidebuch is a register (1435-1602) of verdicts of the Bremen city council in lawsuits. These were not recorded systematically, but apparently only when one of the parties ordered the recording of the verdict in the book.

Primgeldt der botsgesellen ist ein grote.

Anno domini dusent vyffhundert und negenyar am avende Thome apostoli,1 quemen vor denn raedt de frundt unnd copmanne de in Yßlandt gereth haddenn im eyne, myt den boteßgesellenn up ander sydt, to clage unnd antworde umme unde van wegenne des primgeldes des sick de gesellen eynen Lubesschen schillingk noemenden te hebbenn. Dar en jegen de frunde unnd copman sick letenn horen seggende, dat se sick vorhapeden one van dem prymgelde nicht mer dan eynen Bremeren groten to hebbende plegende werenn, unnd setteden dat also in beydenthalven by den radt in dat recht. Darup de radt (na besprake der wytheyt) sede aff vor recht, dat denn gesellenn to prymgelde hir nach oldem herkamende seden unde wonheiden, nicht mer eyn behorde dan eynen Bremeren groten to prymgelde van dem copmanne up to borende.
