The “Kundige Rolle”, a six meter long parchment roll, contained the laws concerning everyday life in the late medieval city of Bremen. It takes its name from the fact that it was read in public every year at the city hall. The roll of 1489 is the only copy that is preserved in its original form, an older version of 1450 is known from a transcript. The rule concerning the sale of stockfish only appears in an addition to the roll of 1489, made in 1513. It is taken over in later collections of Bremen municipal law.
